Academies, Player Development and the infamous Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) are a constant topic of conversation in modern football. Indeed, the strength of the Academy or Youth set up is now widely regarded as a key measure of the standard of any football club and is viewed as pivotal in any ‘plan’ or ‘project’ worth its salt.
That being the case, it may seem somewhat bizarre that two of the most forward-thinking clubs in English football, Brentford & Huddersfield, have chosen to scrap their entire youth system from the U16 downwards. The transfer window just closed saw probably the two most high profile departures from Derby County for many years in the shape of Jeff Hendrick’s club record move to Burnley and Chris Martin’s controversial loan to Fulham.
Although both these departures have been done to death, it is tradition on Ramspace to bid farewell to our departing heroes. I also thought that if I’ve given up an hour of my life to review Ryan Shotton’s time at DCFC, then its only right that we put something together for these two. Isn’t it great when the big boys fuck up. We’ve all laughed our arse off at Chelsea’s fiasco of a season, drank in the misery of Man Utd’s laughable transfers and tedious losing football and tell me you don’t love it when Man City get ritually humiliated in the Champions league.

This afternoon I went to my first game of this season, attending the 3-1 victory over Notts County at Meadow Lane.
What ended up being a comfortable victory, nicely rounded off a good few weeks for the Rams prior to the players leaving fro Austria on Sunday. Here’s a few thoughts on today’s game followed by a few more general comments around the state of the DCFC nation.
I was hoping to post this in the international break but didn’t quite get to it amongst work and sorting out my forthcoming birthday celebrations.
