Derby County Fanspotting

If you were looking for a set of UK football supporters that have been through the mill more than Derby County fans in the last five years you would do well.

Yes, we’ve not been relegated, been in financial difficulty or been rinsed by foreign owners like several clubs, but, as the saying goes, it’s the hope that kills you. After the horror of Wembley, it seems the Rams capacity to emotionally destroy their fans knows no bounds with the rollercoaster results this year doing little to halt the trend.

Any Derby County online group or feed and often the away end at any given game is currently not a nice place to be, with the word “toxic” regularly being used. Civil war is raging between fans at levels not seen since the Clough days but its maybe not as straight forward as happy clappers v wrist slashers.

Here’s how we break down the factions. Read the rest of this entry

Post Match Thoughts – Sheffield United

When the odious Raheem Sterling scored his undeserved, deflected 97th winner for, the increasingly dislikeable, Man City as we left the pub, we should have known it was going to be one of those days. However, I don’t think anyone could have predicted one of the most car crash away performances Derby have put on for some time.

Here’s how it went down. Read the rest of this entry

Derby County – New Season Barometer

Over the last few years, each new Derby season has been heralded as a new dawn only for Rams fans to be served with the same old, from exactly the same group of players, against the backdrop of a procession of managers, relieved of their duties.

With the sale of our two star players in Tom Ince and Will Hughes, some canny signings and early signs that we may have a keeper in Rowett, this season genuinely does feel like a fresh start for The Rams.

Thus, what better way to see in the new season and new era with a well overdue return for the classic Ramspace Barometer. Enjoy. Read the rest of this entry

Departure Lounge – Cyrus Christie

Back into cattle class after processing a few high rollers through our doors, it’s time to bid farewell to Cyrus Christie, who yesterday completed his move to Championship rivals Middlesbrough in a £2.5m deal.

Christie leaving Derby is no surprise and the reality is that this move has been on the cards for a few weeks. Read the rest of this entry

Exec Departure Lounge – Tom Ince

It’s all kicking off in Departures today. Earlier we had this skinny French African guy who has been in passport control for two weeks (we found him by the side of the road a while back but, being honest, we banged him up and forgot he was there) finally bundled onto a plane back to France.

Today there’s all manner of argy bargy at the entrance to the Will Hughes Exec Departure Lounge area. Security have been scuffling with an individual known as “The Guvnor” demanding access for his client. Management can’t be arsed with his moaning anymore so, resplendent in his full box fresh salmon Nike jogging suit, we’ve allowed entry to master Thomas Ince. Read the rest of this entry

Exec Departure Lounge – Will Hughes

When John Percy broke the story that Will Hughes was on the verge of joining (fucking) Watford a week or so ago, my immediate reaction was surely not. However, when John breaks DCFC stories they invariably come to pass, so I feared the worst.

Kevin Philips all but confirmed the deal was done on Friday and it was formally confirmed yesterday, leading to a predictable and understandable outpouring of emotion from Rams fans. Read the rest of this entry

Ramspace World Soccer Season Preview 2017

With players starting to return from holiday and the transfer market starting to come to life, the next month should be a very busy one for Derby County after a very encouraging start.

Before it all properly kicks off, regular readers will know that each year we write the DCFC contribution for the official World Soccer UK season preview special.  As ever with these pieces, there’s nothing you don’t know here, but herewith an un-edited version of this seasons submission. New Boys – Curtis Davies

Gary Rowett’s first signing for DCFC is in the can and seems to have met with widespread approval from the Rams massive. Certainly £500k seems a good deal for a player of Curtis Davies pedigree and a potential new skipper for Derby.

Here’s a few words on what we can expect from Curtis from known associate of SSpaceram, Richard Cromwell, A.K.A. “The Hull Fan At Work”. Read the rest of this entry

Derby County Translate

As another crushingly disappointing season for Derby County comes to a close, we at least have the glimmer of hope that, in Gary Rowett, we may have a manager who understands what the Championship is all about.

With promises of much change in the summer and the football largely irrelevant for the last few weeks, there’s been no shortage of comments in the local press from all levels of DCFC as Directors, Staff and Players try to explain another failure and talk up the future of the club and themselves.

Using our handy Derby County Translate tool, you can read here what these statements really mean. Read the rest of this entry

Derby County – Our Plan For Progress

Last year Mel Morris spoke about re-writing his plan for Derby County and publishing as much of this as possible to the public domain. To date this plan has never materialised.

When Steve McClaren was first appointed and the Rams were winning regularly, nobody cared about Mel’s plan. However, with the team & the club once again rudderless, the topic of “the plan” has started to be raised again.

Whilst Mel gathers his thoughts, we’ve put together our own plan, which the club can have on us, with our compliments.  Some are big issues, some minor, some serious, some not so much. Let us know your thoughts. Read the rest of this entry
