New Boys – Curtis Davies
Gary Rowett’s first signing for DCFC is in the can and seems to have met with widespread approval from the Rams massive. Certainly £500k seems a good deal for a player of Curtis Davies pedigree and a potential new skipper for Derby.
Here’s a few words on what we can expect from Curtis from known associate of SSpaceram, Richard Cromwell, A.K.A. “The Hull Fan At Work”.
“So, farewell then, Curtis Davies. This has come as a bit of a surprise, but when Davies said on his Twitter account that he was looking to reinvigorate himself, I took his point. It’s the new challenge time, and I think he also became increasingly fed up with the incompetence of our owners. He had been critical over the lack of investment last close season, and he may have suspected more of the same.
I suspect that had Hull City remained in the Premiership, his days may have been numbered anyway. After a consistent start to last season, he got less game time under Marco Silva, and seemed to struggle with the new manager’s systems, with one or two errors creeping in.
That said, there’s no doubt that Curtis is still a very good player and most fans would have been happy to see him as a core player in the Championship. His stats on interceptions, tackles and aerial duels remain impressive, the errors seem to be more those of concentration.
But, you’ll be getting more than just a decent player. I’m also sure he will be an excellent ambassador for Derby County. An articulate and dignified man, I can see him being an asset on and off the pitch.
Bon voyage Curtis. I’ll applaud you next season, even though it’s a bloody Rams shirt you’ll be wearing…..”
