Derby County – Where are they now?

I follow a really good account on Twitter @finishedplayers where they tweet where are they now pictures of ex players and their current jobs and/or status in life (have a look for Sasa Curcic).

They’ve recently posted a couple of belters on Kevin Francis and Malcolm Christie which I’ve reproduced here. However, inspired, I took to the internet and looked up a few more ex Rams to go with them. Fire in anymore you know.

Both Mel Sage and Paul Hooks (remember him?) became Taxi drivers, Jason Kavanagh runs a successfull mortgage broker, Trevor Hebberd ended up working in a warehouse in Leicester, Mark Stallard is another who is now a financial advisor, In 2011, Lars Bohinen finished third on the the Norwegian version of Strictly Come Dancing, Daryl Powell runs a football agency (Paramount Sports Management) and employs Jacob Laursen as one of his agents. Jacob is also a regular pundit on Danish TV. Tony Dorigo is a regular pundit for Al Jazeera but more interestingly during his time in Torino, he collaborated with Dolmio in order to produce an unsuccessful range of pasta sauces. Sean Flynn owns and runs a caravan park in Cornwall. Mart Poom is predictably the goalkeeping coach for the Estonian national team. Jeff Chandler now works as a counsellor for youth offenders in Preston. Trevor Christie became a Salesman in the Mansfield area although it is unclear what he was selling. Marco Gabbiadini owns a guest house and does lots of Sunderland related media work. Brett Angell emigrated to New Zealand, Danny Dichio did the same to Canada and Spencer Prior went to Australia coaching a womens team. Dave Swindlehurst lives in Kent and installed computer systems before becoming a PE teacher. Ashley Ward now runs a different number of company’s with his wife Dawn, including a  fashion boutique  in Wilmslow, A commercial property business, a nursing home in Bolton and also managing a 15million luxury property development company – the company specialises in the building and renovation of luxury homes, many for footballers’ including those of Kevin Campbell and Wayne Rooney!

  1. Great article. Was terrific to see Jacob Laursen and Darryl Powell on Saturday, JL was always one of my fave Jimbo era players…..and yes, I remember Paul Hooks back in the day !

    • Cheers Pete. Was bizarre coincidence that I researched that article Saturday morning then Daryl and Jacob actually turned up on the pitch that day! Let’s hope they bought some players for January.
