One more for the barometer

A late entry for the season barometer goes to Sheffield United Academy director John Pemberton for guiding Sheff U. to the final of the FA Youth Cup final. The Blades will take 6,000 fans to Old Trafford after a 2-2 draw in front of nearly 30,000 at Bramhall Lane. But why care about Sheff. U or John Pemberton?

Some of you may remember Pemberton at Forest, where he helped developed the likes of McGugan, Morgan and Perch and then led the reserves to the league title. He was then axed by Billy “youth development*” Davies, who disbanded the Forest reserve team ( the Forest reserve team is now up and running again but their performance in the 1-7 defeat to us didn’t suggest another title any time soon).

*As our friends at derbycountyblog pointed out recently, Davies’ efforts at Derby are summed up by championing Jason Beardsley (last seen on Eastwood’s bench) and ignoring Miles Addison. Although I think letting homegrown England U21’s, Camp and Grant, leave and replacing them with Price and Hinchcliffe takes some topping.
