New Boy – Shefki Kuqi

Heres the low down on our new bo Shefki Kuqi from my Ipswich mate Ollie and my Swansea mate Brian.

Shefki is a 110%, chase a lost cause player who will mainly be remembered at Ipswich for his high leap (swallow dive) against Sheff Utd right in front of their fans (he was former Owls) and I rated him. He wont get loads of goals as he is not a natural goalscorer, but he will chase and chase and make things happen. I reckon overall it’s a good signing for Derby.

Ollie “Ronan” Coe

Shefki was a welcome addition in late january 2009 to a worryingly goal shy Swans side. After two games on the bench, he gained immediate cult acclaim after scoring on his full debut in a 1-0 away win at Crystal Palace.

From there he started all but 4 of the remaining games, but our goal famine continued and ultimately killed off our play off hopes. He scored just 4 more goals and also missed a few easy looking chances on the way.

A change of manager and the return of Stephen Dobbie from loan stint a Blackpool saw Shefki drop down the pecking order for the lone striker role.

With Brendan Rodgers now trying to bring in Frank Nouble and Simon Cox of WBA in, the big Finn’s days look numbered at the Liberty.

He’s only started both of the Swans’ Carling cup games this season, although he did score in both matches.

Maybe with more/better service last season, we’d have seen more goals and I wish him well at Derby. At 33, his best days are probably way behind him now, but with the right service and given his height and physique, he’ll always bag some goals.
