New Boys – Andre Wisdom

Although he’s yet to pull on a Rams shirt, there seems to be universal positive response to the season long loan of England U-21 captain Andre Wisdom.

Herewith the lowdown on Andre direct from Merseyside:-

Andre Wisdom’s loan move to Derby County is a great deal for the player and both teams.

Wisdom impressed for Liverpool in pre-season, where he was used in his more natural centre-back role – rather than full-back where he was asked to deputise last season. But the signings of Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and Tiago Ilori mean his chances there at Liverpool are slim at present.England U21 v Scotland U21

Wisdom is a good player, most comfortable as left-sided centre-back. He’s got all the attributes required, in terms of physical strength and technical ability. He’s quick, especially for a centre-back, strong, good in the air and comfortable with the ball at his feet.

What he needs is match experience and he’ll get that at a good team under a good coach. For all his critics, McClaren is still rightly highly-rated in football and a superb coach. He’ll develop Wisdom for certain.

Adding two plus two can sometimes equal five, but the move does appear that it could act as a sweetener for Liverpool in their pursuit of Will Hughes.

I actually said you’d be a good outside bet for promotion a few weeks ago, before Clough was sacked! Now, I really do think you will be there or there abouts. My friend works at QPR and said McClaren is a superb coach, everyone there loved him.”
