New Boys – Lee Grant
This was going to be yesterdays post, in the slipstream of Simons piece on the re-signing of Granty, but got bumped by the breaking news on John Brayford contract.
Anyway, as is the normal form, here’s a brief lowdown on how Grantys been doing during his time at Burnley from someone who has witnessed it first hand.
“Lee Grant is coming off the back of a player of the season calibre year. He had a slow start at Turf Moor, no doubt in part to the fan’s attachment to fellow goalkeeper Brian Jensen but as that has faded, especially following Jensen’s cup performance, he has excelled.
He’s not without his faults, he doesn’t come and collect anywhere near enough crosses and much prefers to punch than catch but he does bring excellent shot stopping and fantastic distribution. He kicks well with both feet, which is a luxury at this level and something few keepers have.
Derby have done good business here, picking up a top half Championship goalie on a free. With a good team in front of him and the support of the crowd, he won’t let you down.”
